I bought this after much research from New England Detectors. It is a huge improvement over my previous detector the Bounty Hunter 101. (like a Tracker IV) In my area soil mineralization is a problem, red clay. The solution is getting a detector with manual ground balance. This means stepping up to the $400 price range, and detectors such as a Teknetics Gamma, Fisher F-4, F-5, Tesoro Vaquero, Bounty Hunter 505, Platinum, etc. I chose this one because of the Minelab name and forum posts suggesting its ability to find targets other detectors miss in mineralized soil. The VDI numeric ID system is nice to have as well.

On the cons, coils are expensive, and it is a little slower in recover compared to Tesoro and Fisher, but as NEswiper's youtube demonstrates it is fast enough to play music.

Buying tips. On high end detectors, the manufacturers will not let retailers advertise below list, so call. They can throw in tools you need and/or make you a lower priced...Read more
