Who knows what treasures lie beneath your feet? Unearth your own piece of history and take up a hobby that could very well pay for itself with a few good finds: metal detecting. The Garrett GTAx 750 metal detector is at once a sophisticated and sensitive piece of machinery as well as a rugged and lightweight tool. Assembling the metal detector is easy and requires no tools. Once it's put together, you're ready to start your treasure hunt. The metal detector includes a padded collar that cups your upper arm and steadies the search coil at the bottom of the device. The control panel, located conveniently above the cushioned handgrip, includes a touchpad that's used to adjust the device's sensitivity, discrimination pattern, and threshold, as well as to pinpoint located items. The metal detector operates on eight 9-volt batteries (included) and comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, as well as an instructional video, Garrett baseball cap, and treasure wipes. --Benjamin Reese

For the most part this works, but every once in a while you'll find that deep hunk of metal that it can't identify. On the older detectors with the knobs, you set the discrimination by turning the knob. That means that if you don't want to dig pulltabs than you will miss nickels and other valuble coins. On the GTAx 550, you can discriminate specific targets, like a nail or pulltab without missing the nickels. There are also two modes on the GTAx 550 so you don't have to reset the discrimination between coins and jewelry...Read more
