Summary: ok detector for starters 2010-08-08
Comment: i have had this detector for a year now and found some pretty cool stuff. if i could go back a year i would have went to [...] and signed up to there forum and posted questions. theres alot of people on that page thats been doing this hobby for years and could help you find the right detector. the pin pointing on the machine sucks in my opinion but its strong point is finding coins. if your looking for relics i wouldnt recommend this machine

Comment: I wanted to write this review for the beginners of this hobby. Just like me you have probably compared lots of models with lots of different prices . You wonder if you spend to little will you be buying rubbish > I bought the Garret Ace 250 and it is superb for the Price . On my first outing I went beach hunting and found many old coins and other items .Of course if you spend $1000 or more you will get a better Metal detector but that holds true for anything you buy. This machine works easily and effectively .The DVD makes it easy to setup and understand straight from the get go.
As a tip to the new hobbyist buy yourself a good pin-pointer,this holds true for any metal detector you buy, it just makes life much easier. Don't be fooled about metal detecting Headphones being superior or necessary ,they're not .A normal pair of over the ear headphones has a higher dynamic range than what any metal detector can produce , its a metal detector not an mp3 player ,it has very simple audio output circuitry.
Buy the Garret ,go brave and enjoy.

Comment: Haven't found the "big one" yet but it's fun looking. Simple, easy to use and the battery lasts forever. Works great in most areas, but not in the wet sand. Has found fishing lures, coins, a small gold ring and lots of other items. Will most definetly keep you busy.

Comment: This product is good. Need more practice with it. It found a peice of copper pipe and an iron pipe under ground. No treasures yet.

Comment: First time we used it it found two pennies, as the detector stated. It is fun, but will take some practice with the tones as the book states. Was a Fathers Day gift for my husband.
