Summary: Found Something More Precious Than Gold 2010-05-27
Comment: I always had an interest in buying a metal detector but like so many other things, the idea got back burnered. Then a couple of weeks ago I was gardening in my backyard when I looked down at my hands and to my dismay discovered that my wedding ring was missing. Now I had been digging for the better part of an hour and had no idea at what point in time it had fallen off. My frantic efforts to find it were to no avail. I sat slumped for a moment and then it hit me - now more than ever is a great time to buy that metal detector you always wanted. I immediately went on-line, read a few reviews, and decided on the Bounty Hunter VLF. It arrived a week later and I couldn't wait to try it out. Assembly was very easy and it was no time before I was outside. It literally wasn't a minute before the machine beeped. I dropped to my knees, dug, and found my ring! Need I say more. The machine is the best!!!

Comment: We bought this metal detector for my 87 year-old grandfather. We needed something lightweight and simple to use, but that was still a good quality instrument. It works great and he absolutely loves it.

Summary: not good for buried small objects 2009-09-17
Comment: Will not pick up a coin or ring if it is buried more than 1/4" in the ground - it will pick up a soda can that is 6" deep. Not a good choice if you are looking for a lost ring, unless you are sure the ring is not buried at all. This would make a good toy for the kids.

Comment: Bought this for our pre-teen son for a present. The volume/sound went out within a month and the detector needle was overly sensitive. I don't recommend this product.

Comment: Great idea for a gift for a youth. I wanted this unit to locate metal property markers and was very diasappointed in this product. I was unable to find the markers with this product and gave it to my grandchildren to play with. Ended up going to the sporting goods store and buying a different unit for a few extra dollars and it worked great. If you want something to use for a hobby spend a few extra bucks and buy a better unit.
