This unit is the very best metal detector I have seen for under $80. It has no target identification meter, but it does have a very decent discrimination control and reasonably good depth for it's price. In an air test I was able to detect a US penny at 7 inches away from the search coil, and that again is quite remarkable for the amount of money I invested buying it.

I own about 20 other metal detectors, some costing as much as $1000. I was a detector repairman during the 80's, and I have used nearly every metal detector on the retail market in the last 30 years. I would recommend this detector as the very best starter detector to be found, and as for myself, I plan to use it too, especially in gravel or dirt parking lots where it seems to shine. The search rod is barely long enough for me at 6'1", but it is adequate. The performance is unbelievable. The price is unbeatable. The headphone is very comfortable. Highly recommend.

I bought a basic one for my son and the explorer model for myself. We both enjoy our new toys. For explorer metal detector, it is light and comes with many feature coming with advanced model.
