- Pay attention to last photo in the above picture gallery. Search Coil need to be unfolded for testing or usage. Otherwise (in folded position), it will BEEP CONSTANTLY since Search Coil is testing the metal rod. 1. Adjust the dial switch away from the OFF position till the LED indicator lights and a beep sound is heard. 2. Rotate the dial switch backward slightly till the beep sound just disappears - this is the key point to adjust the metal detector into the most sensitive status.
- Buzzer sounds and LED lights when metal is detected. Sensitivity: > 8 inch (for a US quarter). It means if the quarter is buried within 8 inches from ground, you can find it.
- 6.5 inch waterproof search coil (This is one of few models on the market under $50 that comes with a waterproof search coil.)
- Shaft extends from 23" to 34 1/2", Adjustable stem for comfortable use. Locates metals such as gold, silver, copper, aluminum, platinum and more. Only 1.5 lbs. Requires one 9V battery (included).

The HP-1002 model has been very popular as a promotional gift. It is very easy to use. Search the area, listen to the sound or watch the indicator lamp. If you would like to try treasure hunting without spending a lot of money, this is a perfect model. This is also a "unique" toy for kids who want to follow their parents in treasure hunting. Many customers told us their children found some surprising "treasures" using this basic metal detector.

Treasure hunting has become more and more popular these days. Metal detectors vary from a few bucks to thousand dollars. I bought several metal detectors priced below 50 bucks and this is the only model I recommend. This is not a toy. The units work pretty well and they're simple to use. Magazines geared toward the hobby will steer more serious hobbyists toward the better high end equipment but if you don't want to spend thousands of dollars just to find out if you really enjoy doing this, I think this unit is a great way to start. The following claim under "Product Features" is totally false: "Sensitivity: > 8 inch (for a US quarter). It means if the quarter is buried within 8 inches from ground, you can find it." Turning the detection knob to maximum sensitivity, I could only detect a quarter in air when the detector was 1" to 1.5" away from it. I wanted to use this to find iron property stakes where I live. It did not detect the stakes, even when they were right at the surface! I have since rented two metal detectors that detected the stakes immediately! Unless you plan to give this item to children to find coins you placed on the surface (and they know where to look), it's totally useless. |
